Bridal shoot – Purton House, Swindon

September 11th, 2014

So, a couple of months ago, I got to do a bridal shoot with some fabulously talented women. In fact, I do believe it was my first all woman shoot. The results are gorgeous and therefore am proud to share some of these images with you.

The shoot took place at Purton House, Swindon, a family owned venue that recently opened its doors to the public for weddings, intimate parties and events. It is a beautiful location, set on a lake. It is, indeed so idyllic, that as I pulled up the drive  and stepped out of my car, I was greeted by 4 ducks……the welcoming committee I assume.

The vision for this 1920’s/Gatsby inspired shoot was the creation of the wonderful photographer Jody Sutton (more about her later) We wanted the makeup to be guided by the era but to have a more trend based edge that kept the look fresh and relevant. After all, this wasn’t fancy dress. The roaring 20’s makeup excites me, they weren’t afraid of makeup. They would team a strong smokey eye with a fiercely dark lip which has influenced some of the most iconic cosmetic and fashion houses over the last couple of seasons. (shown below)

As it was still technically a bridal shoot, it still had to be incredibly feminine but I really wanted to show the versatility of makeup. When people utter the words, “bridal makeup” everyone jumps to the conclusion that it has to be very natural, very fresh and very “english rose” well, I’m here to tell you that it most definitely does not. You can be strong yet still beautiful and feminine and I hope you agree that this is reflected in the images we created.

The hair was achieved in much the same way by the incredible Vicky Turner (now Stanley) of Goldsworthys, Cirencester who I have worked with more times than I care to remember. Vicky has this insane ability to switch from a complicated hair up to soft romantic waves in seconds…..ok that was a slight exaggeration but she’s very quick. Our model Sophie, who’s face I absolutely adore seems to suit any look I apply to her. it must sometimes seem like it’s buy one get one free when you book one of us.

Gorgeous cakes

And for the brains behind the vision, we had photographer Jody Sutton who makes me wish I could get married all over again just to have her as our wedding photographer. She has an incredible eye, and has produced some beautiful images. We have worked on a few weddings together since we did this shoot, including Vicky’s when she recently became Mrs Stanley and I hope to show you some of these gorgeous brides in the near future.

And one last mention goes to the incredible Belles Cake Company who created this gorgeous cake for the shoot and who also allowed us to “sample” a very beautiful cup cake! WOW!!!!!!!

I hope you have enjoyed these pictures as much as we enjoyed creating them.
